Beaver Dam Monitoring Program
With the help of our incredible team of volunteers, we perform ongoing monitoring of beaver dams on the upper Salinas River. The goal of this program is to monitor the health of the beaver population.
What volunteers do:
- Monitor assigned beaver dams to determine whether the dam is intact
- Collect and submit basic data through a Google Survey as part of each dam visit
- Put up caution tape, remove trash, etc., as needed at beaver dams
- Attend our monthly virtual meetings with the volunteer monitoring team
Frequency: At least 1x dam visit per month, and more frequently depending on each volunteer’s availability.
Requirements: Physical ability to walk through sandy, uneven terrain and to wade in the water. Must provide own transportation to monitoring sites.
Commitment: This program requires an ongoing commitment from volunteers. Ideally you would be available to volunteer at least once a month, attend a monthly virtual meeting, and make at least a 4-month commitment.
How to join: If you are interested in joining our Beaver Dam Monitoring Program, please first join us on a Watery Walk and let us know you are interested in this program. At the end of the walk, we can spend a few minutes getting to know you, answering any questions you may have, and discussing next steps.
